Thank you for another fabulous cleanup event!
1,000 volunteers picked up litter community-wide on April 18th
as part of Plano’s Great American Cleanup.
Their efforts resulted in 1.29 tons of trash and .32 tons of recycling
being collected from parks, waterways and public lands. Volunteers enjoyed a
hot dog lunch and Earth Day Celebration at the Plano Centre following the
cleanup. According to Survey Monkey
results from participants, 84% felt that the volunteer appreciation lunch was
important to the event and wanted to see it continued in the future. Eighty-one percent viewed the Earth Day
Celebration activities as important and wanted them continued in the
future. Participants rated the Vocal
Trash concert, Exhibitors and Children’s Art as the top three activities of the
celebration. One respondent summed up the event this way, “Lunch was awesome as
were the exhibitors. The kids had fun
playing the games and petting the snakes and I really enjoyed the band. This really was a family friendly and kid
friendly event.” Another respondent
stated, “It was perfect!!!! We’ll be
participating again next year!” The
Great American Cleanup was part of the Learn 2 Live Green Year-round Learning
Adventures events.
